Celts Aquatic Center

Adaptive Re-Use

JP Architects, Ltd. is designing an aquatic therapy center inside the shell of an existing Ace Hardware. This includes adding an addition for second floor on the facility and a storage garage in the rear. Our services for this project address ADA compliance, climate control, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, coordination with the IDPH and IDOT. The program includes a lobby and reception space, pool therapy room, swimming pool, pool chemical room, physical therapy suite, storage, utility room, ADA bathrooms, classroom / common room, locker rooms with shower and storage and office space and residential on the second floor.

Design accounts for full mechanical equipment updates, including two roof top units -- one for the general space and a specialized moisture controlling unit for the pool area -- duct work, new electrical panels and circuits, low voltage, ADA compliance, new supply and waste piping, lighting, flooring, acoustical ceiling, painting, fire protection, new windows and doors, exterior rehabilitation including repavement of the parking lot and replacement of sidewalks, tuckpointing and roof replacement over the entire facility.

JP Architects, Ltd. has been by my side through three different iterations of this concept. Their attention to detail, ability to be creative and management of the entire design process has played a vital role in the success of this concept.

Bob Welch, Swim Chicago Southland

The challenge for this project was finding a creative way to fit the pool within the constraints of the building. The existing columns we're taken into consideration and instead of a wider, shorter pool, we found it was efficient and cost effective to design a longer, skinnier pool to achieve the client's vision.
