Richards High School Gymnasium
Addition
Expanding Athletic Opportunities Through Purposeful DesignTo support the growing needs of student-athletes and athletic programs, Community High School District 218 invested in a new gymnasium addition at Richards High School that provides dedicated space for training, practice, and competition. Designed as an extension of the school's athletic facilities, the addition enhances programming flexibility while creating a prominent gateway to the athletic complex and outdoor fields.
JP Architects designed a multi-purpose athletic facility featuring a full-size basketball court, four additional basketball hoops, a volleyball court, two batting cages, and all necessary support spaces, including additional restroom facilities. The expanded footprint provides coaches and students with greater scheduling flexibility and increased opportunities for skill development, team practices, and year-round training activities.
The architectural design incorporates school branding throughout the facility, creating a strong visual identity that celebrates Richards athletics. A combination of two-tone brick masonry and metal panel cladding establishes a modern, durable aesthetic while complementing the existing campus architecture. Positioned as a welcoming entrance to the school's athletic areas, the addition serves as both a functional training environment and a landmark destination for students, athletes, and visitors.
The new gymnasium addition equips Richards High School with premier athletic training space while supporting the continued growth of its programs. JP Architects partnered with the District to deliver a facility that balances performance, durability, and school pride, resulting in an attractive and highly functional asset for the school community.
